Helichrysum, the oil known as “everlasting” and “immortal” essential oil, is a European herb native to France, Italy, and a few neighboring countries. However, it is illegal to harvest Helichrysum in France. It is a very costly oil and scarcely available, Helichrysum flowers were first distilled only 40 years ago and remained quite elusive within the essential oil community until just 10 years ago. The extract of the flower was originally utilized by physicians of ancient Europe and Africa for both physical and emotional conditions. Though helichrysum is now grown in many parts of the world, the highest quality oils are produced along the Icelandic coast of Croatia. With an aroma that is a bit earthy and a bit herby, helichrysum oil is refreshing, grounding, and soothing. Helichrysum offers an array of benefits for the skin,
History of Helichrysum
Helichrysum essential oil comes from Helichrysum italicum, a flowing plant in the daisy family. These flowers grow around the Mediterranean and are named after the Greek “Helios,” or sun, and “chrysos,” which translates to gold. The flowers produce very little oil and are often harvested when they are very young to be steam distilled.
Benefits of Helichrysum
Helichrysum is most known for its ability to heal scar tissue. When diluted and applied to stretch marks and scars, helichrysum assists with tissue repair and allows skin to restore its cellular memory – the molecular blueprint lost as a result of an injury or acute physical stress. Beyond scar repair, helichrysum flower oils have been shown to be effective in treating a myriad of minor skin conditions, including: eczema, psoriasis, sunburn, bruises, inflammation, cold sores, immune disorder outbreaks, painful insect bites, skin allergies, and hives.
We have recently added Helichrysum to our newest botanical facial toner No. 27 Helichrysum, Rosehips and Hibiscus Toner to retain your skin’s natural pH balance and assist with skin inflammation and outbreaks of acne. I hope you take this opportunity to try this amazing toner to balance your skin.
