The Amazing Benefits of Bentonite Clay and 5 DIY Bentonite Clay Mask

 Bentonite Clay Benefits

Bentonite Clay Benefits

I love Bentonite Clay.!! I first discovered this miraculous clay when I stopped relaxing my hair and I needed something to loosen my curls. During my youtube viewing, I ran across my first of many Bentonite Clay hair mask demos. I began using a Bentonite Clay hair mask weekly then a weekly facial detox. I find it odd that many a person has not discovered first hand the amazing results of Bentonite Clay.

Why Bentonite Clay works?

On the skin, Bentonite clay acts as a magnet to draw dirt from pores, it absorbs toxins, draws out blackheads, and kills acne-causing bacteria. For the hair, it hydrates, de-frizzes and softens your curls. It also can be ingested to pull toxins from the body.  The clay is truly amazing and it has become the new "hot" ingredient in natural beauty.

What exactly is Bentonite Clay?

Bentonite clay is composed of ash made from volcanos. Some green products list bentonite clay as volcano ash, so the next time you see it on a label, you'll know its bentonite clay. The largest known source of bentonite clay is found in Benton, Wyoming. Bentonite Clay is also referred to as Montmorillonite, from the region of France called Montmorillon, where the clay was first discovered.

How Bentonite Clay draws out toxins?

Bentonite clay has been used as a healing method for protecting the body from disease from ancient cultures. We are exposed to toxins every day. Becuase Bentonite clay is compromised mostly of negative ions and toxins and heavy metals in the body are made of positive ions, Bentonite clay works like a magnet that binds to toxins and helps to eliminate it out of the body.

There are two types of Bentonite Clay, Sodium and Calcium Clay. Sodium Bentonite is used for detoxing purposes as it has a stronger negative charge which causes it to pull more toxins. Calcium  Bentonite contains more calcium and silica which is remineralized into the body. I prefer to use Sodium Bentonite because of its detoxing abilities.  The benefits of Sodium Bentonite:

For the body:

  • Allows Cells to Receive More Oxygen
  • Alkalizes the Body
  • Boosts Immunity by Killing Harmful Bacteria and Viruses

For the skin

  • Used on the skin to heal Eczema, Dermatitis & Psoriasis
  • Can be used to regenerate skin tissue
  •  Draws out the toxins from the skin (great for acne prone skin)
  • It exfoliates the skin

5 DIY Bentonite Clay Mask for the Skin and Hair

The mixing instructions for each mask are pretty much the same and straight forward. Due to bentonite clay’s absorptive properties, it has the ability to absorb metals from objects, so try to avoid metal coming into contact with it when handling or storing it (use a wooden spoon, glass bowl, etc.).

Mixing instructions: Take a ceramic, glass or plastic bowl, Mix all ingredients together until you create a thick paste. Add more liquid if necessary. Apply paste to a clean face and let dry (10-15 minutes). Remove by rinsing with warm water. Always follow up a mask with a toner to return your skin to its' normal PH balance.
