Tiesha Groover is the oldest of two daughters and a sister to a younger half-brother. She is 32 years young and has lived within the boroughs of NYC all her life, which has shaped her passion for beauty. She has dreamed of becoming a teacher, however, that dream was deferred, upon the birth of her son, who has autism. Her blog posts range from the latest beauty box subscriptions to her frustrations and struggles with the educational system and its failure of children with autism. Her dream is to one day be able to support her family with the flexibility of being a beauty influencer while being a full-time mom to a child with disabilities.
NM: When did skincare become important to you?
TG:I would say that skincare became important to me around the age of 27. While pregnant, I experienced the worst breakout ever. I'll share a photo to prove it! I was very uncomfortable in my skin because of stares from strangers when I was out in the public with my son. I knew I had to do something ASAP! I started to clear my skin from the inside out with diet and exercise, I stopped picking at my face and I implemented weekly face masks and while using this bar soap I ALWAYS RECOMMEND, Authentic Kojic Papaya Soap Royale Beauty, this soap is my miracle worker. If you have very bad acne breakouts, please add this soap to your skincare regime.
NM: What does skincare mean to you?
TG: First of all, I believe that your skin is a reflection of your spirit. Your skin shows how your eating, living and breathing. If I'm stressed, tired, dehydrated or ill, I will drink plenty of water, teas and exfoliate properly and moisturize my skin to bring back my glow.
NM: What is your skincare ritual?
TG: Monday through Friday, I wash my face with a sensitive bar soap or peppermint Castille soap. I spray a toner/moisturizer unto my face then apply a small amount of facial serum and then a facial balm. Every weekend, I may experiment, due to my beauty box subscription and try a new face cleanser in replace of my usual items. I also take the time to use a clay mask or facial mask every week.
NM: What are your must-have products?
TG: I'm in love with your Magic, Tumeric Face Balm! My blemishes have faded tremendously and It smells good and I look good wearing it! I love Frankincense & Myrrh whipped body butter by The Black Market Group. Rosehip Oil Luxurious Moisturizer by Gail Purity and your Earth Facial Serum and Illuminating Facial Serum by The Plant Laboratory. I also have a new passion, brushing with charcoal powder, I only use Dirty Mouth powder by Primal Life Organics.
NM: What have you learned most on this journey of skincare?
TG: That we all have different skin types! My mom used Vaseline all her life on her face and has beautiful, smooth and clear skin, It does not clog her pores. I now understand she has very small pores and I do not. I have learned that what works for someone else may not work for me. I will not let other peoples opinions define me. As long as I like what I see in the mirror, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. This is my journey and I have discovered a skincare routine that works for my skin and I now have a clearer complexion.
NM: Now that you’re a #skinboss, what would you like to accomplish in the next five years?
TG: To inspire and motivate other's to look and feel their best! I hope to continue to network and meet some great people who will have that same mindset. I hope that I will have written and illustrated a book on the topic of skincare for adolescents and teens who need guidance the most! I want to be an example of how using organic and plant-based skincare can improve your skin while expanding your outlook on self-care and self-love.
When I can't sleep I categorize and match up lippies for later usage. And now weeks later I have found the latte color #Bemattelipstick by #citycolor that I was searching for earlier to wear with the polish that I still have on my nails from the August Ipsy bag by #SundaysPolish in the color #No7. The matte lipstick by itself is cool but not really me so I applied a little #elflipgloss in color 2804 #icedlatte and all is well. Will be a futute fall regular wear for me.... (yawn) smh it's 3am here.... *Sidebar, all Im really thinking about is how I wish I could do more to help other's right now going through it in Texas....and I mean all those (#Black, #White, #Asian, #Hispanic, #Elderly, #Young, #Disabled and #Nondisabled, #Autisticchildren, #Children #SpeacialNeeds individuals and their #parents. #Pets, #Animals..) are being put through #horrific events such as this #MANMADE storm #HurricaneHarvey and MORE #intentionally or #deliberately. All I have left are my positive wishes and prayers to ALL those people.* I sure hope everyone can see what is really happening....#thebiggerpicture
